Memorable Moments in Beaver
Baseball

September 1, 1982
Steve Stirling resigns as head coach to concentrate on his duties as head coach
of the Babson hockey team. Stirling compiled a 25-21 (.543) as skipper of the
Babson 9.
September 5, 2006
Former Beaver head coach, Mike Reed, arrives at Ft. Campbell, Ky., after
completing his second one-year stint in Iraq, as a member of the 101st Airborne
unit. It was Reed who led Babson to the 2002 ECAC championship in his only year
as head coach, posting a record of 27-19, and establishing the mark for the most
wins in a season by the Babson College 9.
September 15, 1999
Before a big crowd of onlookers, Framingham State outlasted the Beavers in a
thrilling 12-inning fall game to win 9-8. The two long-time rivals battled with
regular-season intensity on a hot and humid day. Rams coach, Mike Sarno, was
tossed from the game by umpire John Guanci for arguing a fifth-inning call that
went against his Rams. Sarno spent the rest of the afternoon taking in the
action sitting on a rock beyond the rightfield fence at Govoni Field.
September 20, 1997
SS/DH Tony Casto '94 and Kimberly Boyden exchange wedding vows.
September 26, 1980
Babson captures the MIT Fall Tournament title. The Beavers rolled over Mass Bay,
MIT, and Bentley, going undefeated in the two-day tourney.
September 27, 2003
P Alex Frick '99 and Jackie O'Leary '99, former stellar cross-country runner for
Babson,
enter into holy matrimony.
September 30, 2006
P Rob Curley '93 and Stephanie MacFarland tie the nuptial knot.
September 30, 1994
The Canadian National Baseball Team came to town and defeated the Beavers, 9-4.
Babson carried a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, but the Canadian 9 staged a
six-run uprising. 2B Scott MacCausland, 3B Jeremy Bock, and SS Patrick O’Quinn
led the Beaver attack with two hits each.
